Author Talk - Unforeseen Consequences - Ron Crosby

21 Centennial Avenue

Friday, 19 June 2026 7:00pm - 9:30pm

Ever wondered what it actually takes to get inside the world of the NZSAS?

Not as a soldier - but as a historian trusted enough to be told stories that have never been made public before?

Blenheim author Ron Crosby has spent years earning exactly that trust, and on Friday 19 June he's coming to Alexandra to share what he found.

His new book Keep Calm - We Are Coming pulls back the curtain on New Zealand's Special Air Service during their time in Afghanistan.

Drawing on first-hand interviews with soldiers, Ron tells the story of three devastating Taliban attacks in Kabul between 2009 and 2012 - and the extraordinary Kiwi response to each one - as well as the tense 2021 evacuation of New Zealanders from Kabul Airport as the city fell to the Taliban.

It's a gripping piece of New Zealand history that deserves to be far better known.

But there's more. Ron will also talk about the chain of events - the unforeseen consequences - that led him to a second major book in the same year, written with Whakaari/White Island rescue hero and former NZSAS soldier Mark Law, due out in August 2026.

Two books in one year is almost unheard of for a historian. Come along and find out how it happened.

Entry is by koha / donation, books will be available to purchase and Ron will be signing on the night.

This is a rare chance to hear a brilliant storyteller talk about some remarkable New Zealanders - don't miss it.
